Ladies and gentlemen, I have seen
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. I am a mess.
Thinking it was FINALLY time to see the movie, I jaunted off to the movie theatre after seeing an adorable childrens' theatre show directed by my friend Paully on Saturday afternoon. It was fun, I was in a good mood (I saw some other friends at the show as well). All was bliss.
I got the the theatre, got my ticket, got lunch (popcorn and a bottled water), and grabbed a seat. I kept watching my fellow viewers coming in - a very diverse crowd. I wondered what the guys with their girlfriends were going to think.
As the movie ended, I was glad I had grabbed napkins before entering the theatre. It took me all of the ending credits to get myself contained (and that last song by Rufus Wainwright did NOT help....). I left the theatre, went across the street to a music store, bought the soundtrack and headed to the wine store. Once there, I purchased some smoked cheese, some crackers, and a bottle of Chianti I had every intention of finishing when I got home.
I drank about 3/4 of it. But I loved the soundtrack (a bit too country at times, but that's what the NEXT button is for). And as I chowed on my comfort food and wine, I shed a few more tears while wearing my PJ's.
And the movie itself? Absolutely magnificent. Heath Ledger's performance was really well done. I believe it is Oscar worthy, but the word is Philip Seymour Hoffman will nab it for
CAPOTE. I want to see it as well. But I think it's a shame Heath won't get an award for this. And the rest of the cast was great too.
Michelle Williams got her
Beatrice Straight moment. And damn,
Ella Enchanted showed the twins. And Jake....oh my Jake......
I can't say enough great things about this movie. I only had a few complaints, but not major ones. I HATED Jake's moustache in his later years. I didn't buy it. And seeing Anna Faris on the screen was a bit of a shock at first. After she was done, I realized she was right for that part. But at first, I got worried.
For me, the hype finally lived up to itself - that hasn't happened for me since SLING BLADE.
See this movie
NOW, and save time for a cocktail and a tissue after viewing.
