Tore up by Brokeback

Ladies and gentlemen, I have seen BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. I am a mess.

Thinking it was FINALLY time to see the movie, I jaunted off to the movie theatre after seeing an adorable childrens' theatre show directed by my friend Paully on Saturday afternoon. It was fun, I was in a good mood (I saw some other friends at the show as well). All was bliss.

I got the the theatre, got my ticket, got lunch (popcorn and a bottled water), and grabbed a seat. I kept watching my fellow viewers coming in - a very diverse crowd. I wondered what the guys with their girlfriends were going to think.

As the movie ended, I was glad I had grabbed napkins before entering the theatre. It took me all of the ending credits to get myself contained (and that last song by Rufus Wainwright did NOT help....). I left the theatre, went across the street to a music store, bought the soundtrack and headed to the wine store. Once there, I purchased some smoked cheese, some crackers, and a bottle of Chianti I had every intention of finishing when I got home.

I drank about 3/4 of it. But I loved the soundtrack (a bit too country at times, but that's what the NEXT button is for). And as I chowed on my comfort food and wine, I shed a few more tears while wearing my PJ's.

And the movie itself? Absolutely magnificent. Heath Ledger's performance was really well done. I believe it is Oscar worthy, but the word is Philip Seymour Hoffman will nab it for CAPOTE. I want to see it as well. But I think it's a shame Heath won't get an award for this. And the rest of the cast was great too. Michelle Williams got her Beatrice Straight moment. And damn, Ella Enchanted showed the twins. And Jake....oh my Jake......

I can't say enough great things about this movie. I only had a few complaints, but not major ones. I HATED Jake's moustache in his later years. I didn't buy it. And seeing Anna Faris on the screen was a bit of a shock at first. After she was done, I realized she was right for that part. But at first, I got worried.

For me, the hype finally lived up to itself - that hasn't happened for me since SLING BLADE.

See this movie NOW, and save time for a cocktail and a tissue after viewing.

Date? That's a fruit from a tree, right?...and other news

Damn. I got stood up for tomorrow. It wasn't a date, but it would have been good to hang with my other buddy Derek who is ending a relationship with his man after 4 1/2 years. And is it really being stood if he tells you a day in advance?

I went and saw my "Golden Girl" comrade Ryan in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN last night. He was great. His leading man was very good. The Spider Woman? I'd wished I'd had a can of Raid. I cannot emphasize enough how good Ryan was, and I'm not just saying that. If he'd sucked, I would have been gentle. I THINK we respect each other enough in our friendship to be honest about those sorts of things. He's a great big talent, and I sincerely know I'll say I KNEW HIM WHEN someday.

This guy's blog is BRILLIANTLY written. Enjoy!

Mrs. Rosen, Dolphins, and roomies....and other News

Shelley Winters died. A girl at work (the oft-spoken of pain in the ass) asked what she was in. I immediately said THE POSEIDEN ADVENTURE (one of my all time favorite/guilty pleasure movies). She hadn't a clue. I said she played Rosanne's grandma on her show. She got that. Good Lord......
In any event, Shelley will be missed. I always loved watching her in a plethora or roles....SOB, Who Slew Auntie Roo?,
The Silence of the Hams. Her appearance on Johnny Carson when she said to a young Annie Potts, "you look very familiar to me" and Annie told her they had done a movie together, and Shelley said "yes, and you were wonderful" is classic. Yes, she won two Oscars as well and had a great career. I will miss you Mrs. Rosen......

I can't believe Pat Robertson's head is still intact....Flipper is spinning in his grave......

*********************************************

So my roomie is being an extra in the next two PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN movies. He's filming right now in the Bahamas. I'm so happy for him and so freaking jealous at the same time!!!!

*********************************************

The past week has had me at my friend Jaya's for a belated birthday dinner (it was lovely), drinking and blowing stuff up via a James Bond video game with before mentioned roomie and our old roomie Sean (GRAND!). Rehearsals for my new show are going along nicely and it's a lot of work....but will be worth it. I SWEAR next post I'll put something up about the show.

**********************************************

Happy birthdays to Paully, Marc, Dame Stephen, Tim, and my old HS buddy Joe. Also a special birthday shout to my "son" Pete (I love you honey), and my buddy Patrick, who survived thyroid cancer and has celebrated "29" three more times than I have.

Good GOD, I'm tired today....and Other News

Okay, let the rambling begin.........

-Jon Stewart is hosting the Oscars. This gives me a boner.

-The CTA is messing with my mind. There was a problem with my transit card. They sent me an email. The infraction happened Dec. 10th at 8:21 am. The email is dated Jan. 10 at 8:21 am. After I FINALLY got a live person on the phone, it went downhill, then evened out with a happy solution on my end....but GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY, those folks sure can condescend.....

-I just LOVE THIS!!!!!

-Don't rate your gay couple friends....ever. AWWWWK----WARD!

-I feel like 10 lbs. of shit in a 5 lb. bag since the holidays hit.....WOW!

-Angelina Jolie's pregnant. WOW, THIS IS SHOCKING!!!!! I hate Brad Pitt now.

-Lindsey Lohan needs to get her ass to a nunnery and stay the fuck there....FOREVER.

-Rehearsals for my new show are going well.....more on that later.

-Bravo to David Letterman for telling Bill O'Dickhead that he's full of crap...or at least 60% of him.....or 100%. Whatever the number, O'Reilly is a turd in a punch bowl.

200-Sax,Sex,Six,Sox,Sux....and Other News

First off, Happy New Year!!! I hope you had a great and safe celebration for the arrival of 2006 and have a wonderful year!

And now, random ramblings.....

- Xmas was great, but 4 days is the amount of time I should be home for it, not 6.

- When you're 99 years old (like my Granny is), you can do whatever the hell you want to and eat whatever the hell you want to. So there.

- Granny turns 100 March 15th. If my mother doesn't ask her what SHE wants to do, it's going to turn into a thing, and it shouldn't!

- Had a great NYE/Birthday party, thrown by my FGC (favorite gay couple) Ernie and Michael. It was nicely attended by about 12 people.

- Dick Clark should have stayed home or taped a greeting. That was a bummer.

- My birthday (Jan. 2) was a calm day. With parties on 12/31 and 1/1, I was tired (and apparently old, thank you to all of you who said so!!!). And I think I'm done with birthdays from now on......meh.

- I have started rehearsal for my first show of '06 - GUANTANAMO. I feel like a VERY STUPID actor. I'll let you know if that improves. Wow, my brain - it hurts.

- Getting back into the swing of work SUCKS!!!!!

- Is it me, or did I gain 75 lbs. over the holidays? Good GOD, if you offer me anymore sweets, I shall kick you in your privates.

- It has been raining in Chicago of and on for the past couple of days. Rain. In January. In Chicago. WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!

- New Year's Resolution - TO DATE MORE. Sorry, I mean TO DATE.
